the Defence of the Caucasus | |
Instituted
on 1 May 1944 with some 870.000 issued. This particular
one must have an interesting history as it was awarded to
a the lowest rank soldier by the Head of the NKVD (predecessor
of the KGB). Someone told me that NKVD troops were rarely
deplyed into the front ranks but were rather following those
ordered to charge, keeping discipline, shooting those who
showed cowardice.
