Medal
of Stefan the Great |

The
Medal of St. Stefan the Great is one of nine religious distinctions
(next to Orders of 1st and 2nd degree and Medal of Piasia
Velichkovski and Orders and Medal of St. Paraskaeva) that
were instituted on 17 July 2003 by approval by the Holy Synod
of the Russian Orthodox Church. The relevant
document dated 22 July 2002 is signed by The Moscow Patriarch
Mitropolit Solnechnogorski. This is an unissued sample that
belongs to a set of three awards including the Orders of the
1st and 2nd degree. The medal is 35mm in diameter and is 3
mm thick and is made of gold plated silver, weighs 16.5g and
is on a rectangular suspension (28x15mm) with blue, white
and red cold enamel. So far about 16 were awarded awarded
to Priests and Civilians by the Chisinau Patriarch to those
who contribute to the development of the Orthodox Church.
