of Stefan Cel Mare 2nd degree |

The
Order of St. Stefan the Great also has a 1st degree and a
medal and is the highest Moldovan religious distinction. Awarded
to the Priests and civilians who contributed to the development
the Orthodox Religion it is one of nine religious distinctions
(next to Orders of 1st and 2nd degree and Medal of St. Paraskaeva
and of Piasia Velichkoevski) that were instituted on 17 July
2003 by approval by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox
Church. The relevant document
dated 22 July 2002 is signed by The Moscow Patriarch Mitropolit
Solnechnogorski. This is an unissued sample with the centre
emblem depicting Stefan cel Mare (Stefan the Great) and while
both degrees have red cold enamel, the 2nd degree does not
have stones inserted around the centre. It is made of
silver (diameter 58mm and is 4 mm thick) and weighs 42.1g.
So far only 5 are known to have been awarded. Made by a Chisinau
jeweler Alexei Cosovan.
