Type 2 Ver 3a R3
  Badge of Honor

Instituted in 1935 with some 1,5 milllion awards issued (many variations due to mass production in several mints). This is a rare screw-back issued between 1936 and 1943 (from when it was on a five side suspension). The serial number dates it between 1942-43 (no. 23880). Only 27,000 were issued.  It is heavily worn with an opening between the two flags and a flake of enamel missing in the top of the star.  The three rivets on the reverse are actually a little suspicious and as if the number was changed - but on balance I think that it is ok. I have one fake of this type and version displayed after the original - note the screw - not on base and badly soldered - no. 21636 with mint stamp above screw).
