Variation 1 R1
  For Victory over Japan

Awarded as of 30 September 1945 with 1.8 million issued. Made of brass in three variations distinguished by their ring.
This is variation 1 that had a soldered ring and hanger from a heavy metal with two layers (awarded 1945-46). Two sub-variations are distingished by the letters on the revers that are 4.9mm or 4.2mm high or by the number 4 which is either straight or slightly curved inwards (as in this one).
Subsequent variations had the ring as part of the medal. Variation 2 also had a heavy metal suspension but of one layer (1946-48) and the ring was "p" shaped. Variation 3 had a round ring with an alluminium suspension (1945-1948).
